Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Are you connected with the Sedona West Property Owners Association?
  • No. The Sedona West Property Owners Association, which was dissolved on November 14, 2019, and which purported to be a legal entity with first mandatory and later voluntary membership fees associated, was a completely separate organization with no connection to Sedona West Alliance.
What if I want to organize something, perhaps see if anyone else wants to have a garage sale some weekend?
  • Post your idea on sedonawest.nextdoor.com, and see if there is other interest. Then coordinate with those neighbors to hold your garage sale.
What if I or others have a lot of yard debris to be collected and hauled to the dump?
  • Post your idea on sedonawest.nextdoor.com, and see if there is other interest. Then coordinate with those neighbors to determine how much debris you’re talking about. Someone might have contact with a friendly landscaper who will work a good price for a group pickup. Perhaps there’s even enough for someone to offer to host a large dumpster at their property, and will split the costs across neighbors who wish to participate. Work out any cost sharing among your interested neighbors.
What if I want to see if there are some neighbors interested in holding a brunch or organizing a picnic?
  • Whether the event is at your home or a community park, use the Nextdoor site to initiate open dialog with your neighbors, unless you just want to send emails to certain neighbors. Then just be neighborly and reach out.
  • Of course, you can always knock on your neighbor's doors and say hello, then share your idea.
Can I get an address list or post business offers on the Nextdoor site?
  • Currently we do not have a Sedona West Alliance neighbors’ address list. Not sure we need one. If we ever do, participation will be voluntary, and such a list would only be shared with others on the list. We are volunteers, but many folks like their privacy, too.
  • Regarding business offers, we do not support active hawking of services through the Sedona West Alliance, its website, or our Nextdoor web presence. If someone asks for a vendor recommendation, it is fair to give your neighbors your experience with a given vendor or vendors.
  • In the future, it may make sense to build a “Friendly Vendors” list, but we will cross that bridge later. For now, check the LINKS page for handy government and other links.
Is Sedona West Alliance a legal entity, 501 bla-bla-bla, or other?
  • No. See our Charter and Mission statements on the WELCOME page. We are neighbors working together voluntarily; nothing more. We are NOT trying to compete with anyone or anything. We seek only to relate to other neighbors. There is enough contention in the world already.
If you have no board of directors or other hierarchy, how does one get in touch with the neighbors in the group?
  • You can either use the contact form on the website, and the webmaster will route your information to an appropriate neighbor for reply, or post your question on Nextdoor.
If you have no board of directors or other hierarchy, how do you make decisions?
  • Individuals or any collection of neighbors may create and discuss any idea, need, or solution. If a group needs to get together to work out some details, we try to check our egos at the door and work together toward consensus. No parliamentary procedures or hierarchies needed. Why? Because we collect no dues and manage no money. We don't always agree with one another, but we respect each other's right to their own opinions.
Do you have anything to do with writing, updating, or enforcing the Sedona West I & II Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions (CC&R’s)?
  • No. You are advised to maintain your property in accordance with all current local, city, state, and federal codes, ordinances, and laws. Check such sources frequently because rules and laws may change, one jurisdiction may supersede another, and court rulings also cause change.
  • Common Sense Recommendation: Consult with a legal professional when trying to understand and navigate CC&R's or property law.
  • We have provided links to the known public CC&R's online here, offered as-is.
If we don't join the (now defunct) Sedona West Property Owners Association, and just want to hang out with the Sedona West Alliance folks, do we still have to adhere to the Sedona West CC&R's?
  • The Sedona West I & II CC&R's, which some folks purport to be current and in effect, are/were attached to one's property, and as such should be understood. Question is: Which revision, if any, of those CC&R's are binding, and on whom? You are always urged to comply with the law, whether at the neighborhood, village, city, state, or federal level. Common Sense Recommendation: Consult with a legal professional when trying to understand and navigate property law, and to see which rules, including neighborhood CC&R's, are live and/or enforceable.
  • Many residents have questions about the legality of any particular revision of the Sedona West CC&R's, given that the SWPOA has never adequately proven any particular revision was updated according to proper procedure with appropriate pedigreed documentation.
